Boys Basketball Coaching Staff
Fredrick Barnes was born and raised on a cattle farm in Collins, MS. His first coach was his dad, Fred Barnes, who was a coach and administrator in the Covington County School District for 49 years. His mother, Lena Barnes, was a teacher in the Covington County School District for 38 years. Education has always been important for the Barnes family. After graduating from Collins High School, Fredrick attended Alcorn State University. He attained a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree there. One of the highlights of his career there was having the opportunity to do his student teaching in Lincoln, Nebraska. Upon returning from Nebraska, Coach Barnes quickly secured a job as the football, basketball, and track coach at McComb Junior High. He piled up 57 wins and only 7 losses as the Basketball Coach from 1999 to 2004. He also had 2 trips to the coliseum as an assistant. Barnes was asked to become the Head Basketball Coach at Brandon High School in 2004. He has spent the last 13 years building the program to one that is respected all over the state. This includes 20 or more wins per season in the last 12 seasons. He has amassed 291 wins and 4 trips to the coliseum at the helm of the Basketball Bulldogs. Last year’s team set a school record with 30 wins. They also went from being unranked in the preseason to becoming the number one team in the state. Looking forward to another great season this year.

Coach Cable is in his second year back with the Dogs! He coached in Brandon from 2006-2011. Most recently he has coached at Warren Central & Poplarville High school. While at Poplarville in 2012-13 Coach Cable was named District Coach of the Year. He also lead the Hornets to a 20-10 record in 2015-16 and a eventual second round play-off lost to state runner-up McComb 55-57. This was the hornets first 20 win season in as many years. Coach Cable's career high school head coaching record is 89-75. Coach Cable played collegiately at Southwest C.C. and Belhaven University. While at Belhaven he was the teams leading scorer and a All- Conference selection in the 1998-99 season.
head 9th grade coach
Brandon Kirk is entering his first season as the Bulldogs 9th grade boys basketball coach. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelors in Education and recently completed his Master's from Arkansas State University in Educational Leadership He has coached for the last 4 years in his hometown of Baldwyn. While at Baldwyn, he has been part of numerous state tournament appearances and division championships as a player and a coach. During his most recent trip to the state tournament, his team was defeated in the state championship game. As a player, his team was also defeated in the state championship game his senior year. As a junior varsity coach he only lost 2 games over a span of 3 years. He hopes to carry his tradition of winning consistently to Brandon and is looking forward to a great season.
