Baseball Coaching Staff
Daniel Best is entering his tenth year of coaching. From 2009-2012, he was the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at St. Patrick Catholic High School. While at St. Patrick, the Irish advanced to the second round of the playoffs for three consecutive years. Coach Best then joined the staff at Biloxi, where he served as the Head Junior High Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach from 2013-2015. Under Best’s leadership, the Indians clinched the 2015 District Four Championship and finished the season 11-1. He was in Monroe, Louisiana from 2015-2016, where he was the Varsity Pitching Coach for the Neville Tigers. During his time at Neville, the Tigers advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Coach Best joined Vancleave High School as the pitching coach during the 2017 season. The Vancleave Bulldogs placed second in district and lost in the first round of the MHSAA Playoffs. Coach Best was named Head Coach at Vancleave High School in the summer of 2017. During his first year as head coach, he led the Vancleave Bulldogs to the school’s first ever MHSAA Class 4A State Championship. The Vancleave Bulldogs were Region 8-4A Champions, posted a 29-7 record, and were 10-0 in the playoffs.
Coach Best graduated from Ruston High School (2002) in Ruston, LA. He came to Mississippi by way of an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi. Coach Best was a four year letter winner (2002-2006) at USM for former head coach Corky Palmer, and current head coach Scott Berry. Coach Best was a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assocation All-American, Stopper of the Year Award Finalist, SEBaseball.com’s Conference USA’s Pitcher of the Year, Conference USA First-Team All-COnference, and set the single season ERA record (0.46) in his Junior year. In his senior year, Coach Best was a NCBWA Preseason First-Team All-American, a Louisville Slugger Third-Team Preseason All-American, Conference USA Third-Team All-Conference and Pro-Line National Pitcher of the Week. Coach Best was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 14th ROund of the Major League Draft in 2006.
Coach Best is married to Lyndsey Castlemen Best. Daniel and Lyndsey are proud parents of future baseball players Drace, who is five years old, and Beckett who was born in September of 2017.
Cory Jordan is entering his 7th season as Asst. Baseball Coach at BHS. He graduated from Clinton High School where he played baseball from 2000-2005. Coach Jordan previously coached at Jim Hill High School. He and his wife, Mandy, have two sons Paxton and Knox. Coach Jordan graduated from Mississippi State University in 2009, holding a degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis on social studies.
